John Dowland

John Dowland 1563 - 1626

In Dalkey’s own Sorrento Park, set into a rock face, there is a fine metal mosaic of the poet and lutenist John Dowland, who was an intimate friend of William Shakespeare. It has been said that his descriptions of the Dalkey coast inspired the setting for Elsinore in ‘Hamlet’.” (Tara-Lee Byrne)
