Nightmare On Werburgh Street
St Werburgh's Church, Dublin - designed by Thomas Burgh and completed in 1719.
This historic building, in the shadow of Dublin Castle, has a long and illustrious history….a hidden gem. As in much of Dublin, there is so much more than meets the eye. If you look carefully, you will see that the second story does not seem to match…and there is a good reason for that. It was originally a much taller building…destroyed in the fire of 1754, the steeple removed in 1810…the tower removed in 1836. What we see now is is shadow of what it once was. There is much to be learned from reading further……please do.
